Destination Venice
Sat 17th - Sat 24th August 2024

Overview

We will actually be starting our adventure in Pula, Croatia as the flights and yacht charters are much cheaper here.

There will be some longer passages on this trip with up to 60 miles some days.

As Venice is our prime destination we will spend two nights there to give ourselves a full day to explore this beautiful city.

We will visit 3 countries in the week, Italy, Croatia and Slovenia.

Northern Adriatic Sea
Poreč

Poreč – Croatia

Poreč is a popular summer resort on the coast of the Istrian Peninsula in western Croatia. The town is almost 2,000 years old, and is set around a harbour protected from the sea by the small island of Sveti Nikola,

In the historic old town, the 6th-century Euphrasian Basilica complex is famous for its gem-studded Byzantine mosaics and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

The coastline north and south of town draws visitors with camping areas, marinas and beaches with water sports.

Some 6 km inland, the Baredine Cave is notable for its stalactite formations.

Venice – Italy

Venice, known also as the “City of Canals,” “The Floating City,” and “Serenissima,” is arguably one of Italy’s most picturesque cities. With its winding canals, striking architecture, and beautiful bridges, Venice is a popular destination.

Venice is known for its bridges. There are 417 bridges in Venice, and 72 of these are private. The most famous bridges being the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs. Although the Bridge of Sighs sounds very romantic it was actually the view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment.

The gondolas plying the busy Grand Canal and the smaller waterways of Venice are one of the most iconic images in the world. They are the symbol of history, tradition, and romance in the city on the lagoon, and a gondola ride in Venice ranks among one of the most dreamed-about experiences for travellers

The Rialto Bridge, Venice
Venetian Mask

Masks have always been an important feature of the Venetian carnival. Traditionally people were allowed to wear them between the festival of Santo Stefano (St. Stephen’s Day, December 26) and the end of the carnival season at midnight on Shrove Tuesday. Today there are many places you can buy the masks in Venice.

There is so much to see in Venice, Doge’s Palace, St Mark’s Basilica and square, The Grand Canal, the Campanile belltower and the stunning Scala Contarini del Bovolo.

The alleyways and walkways twist and turn through Venice and there is a surprise around many a corner,

Izola, Slovenia

Today an early start as we head to Izola in Slovenia. Izola has a certain Venetian charm all of its own. Izola has a large marina, old narrow winding streets to wander through and excellent bars and restaurants to enjoy.

The local cuisine focuses on fish, excellent wine and olive oil.

The gothic bell tower of St. Maurus Church has a fantastic view of the port once you have braved the 99 steps to the top.

Izola, Slovenia
Rovinj

Rovinj, Croatia

Our final stop before we head back to Pula is the beautiful port of Rovinj, probably the most photographed port in Croatia. Brightly painted houses and fishing boats line the seafront. The old town is a historic walking area with cobbled streets which are very Italianate in style and very photogenic with small boutiques, hidden alleyways and stylish cafes to sit enjoy the coffee and watch the world go by.

Again for the best views head for the Church of St. Euphemia and climb the 192 creaky steps to the top of the bell tower.
