The Southern Dodecanese Islands - Greece
Sat 24th June - Sat 1st July 2023

The Dodecanese Islands

The Dodecanese literally “twelve islands” are a group of 15 larger plus 150 smaller Greek islands in the south eastern Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean, off the coast of Turkey’s Anatolia, of which 26 are inhabited. The Southern Dodecanese encompass many beautiful and unspoilt islands and it is here we are heading for our first 2023 Mediterranean sailing trip. The area is an island hopping paradise with plenty of lovely towns and deserted bays to enjoy.

Rhodes

Our gateway island, Rhodes is steeped in history and Greek mythology. One of the most popular Greek islands with some of the best beaches as well as the site of the famous Colossus of Rhodes and the Acropolis of Rhodes.

It is here we start our adventure picking up the yachts in Rhodes Harbour. With plenty of restaurants to choose from we will be ready to set sail on Sunday morning.

Symi Island

Symi Island is one of the most precious gems in the Dodecanese islands archipelago. The colourful architecture of its villages is one of the island’s highlights, with postcard-like mansions popping up as soon as you start to approach the port. In addition to the eye-catching port, we will find several excellent sunset gazing viewpoints, beaches with crystal clear waters and traditional settlements.

Nisyros Island

Nisyros

Nisyros Island hosts the youngest and still active volcano in Greece.  The beaches are both pebbly and sandy and the waters are wonderfully clear.

Other Islands

Other islands we are planning on visiting are Tilos, Halki and the deserted Alimia.

Sailing Conditions

Winds are generally light in May/June blowing from SW-SE,  F2-5 in the afternoons dying down at sunset.
